Dear Ubiquiti Inc. and KPN,

I want to highlight an issue many users are running into with PPPoE on KPN fiber connections.

Right now, PPPoE is limiting the actual speeds we can achieve. Even with capable hardware, it’s difficult to reach the full bandwidth that is being delivered by the ISP. In my case, I’m not getting the speeds I should be seeing on a multi-gigabit fiber connection.

The main problem is that PPPoE introduces overhead and performance constraints, which become very noticeable at higher speeds. This turns it into a bottleneck—especially for users running homelabs, and high-performance setups.

From the Ubiquiti side, better PPPoE optimization or improved performance (for example multi-core utilization) would already make a big difference.

From the KPN side, it would be great to see a move toward more efficient alternatives that allow customers to fully utilize their fiber connections.

This affects a growing group of users who rely on stable and fast connectivity for virtualization, storage, and networking workloads. We’re simply trying to reach the speeds we are paying for.

Hopefully this gets the attention it deserves.

  • Dear Ubiquiti Inc.

We need to have a quick word 😉 I’m running a homelab and using your gear daily, and I really like it. But I’m missing one thing: a server rack that is higher than 12U for home use. 42U? That’s just too high for most homelabs. It quickly becomes overkill in a home setup. What…

  • Hi Ubiquiti Inc.,

I think I may have found a small hint inside Ubiquiti Design Center about a possible new 24U rack from Ubiquiti and honestly, I really hope it becomes real soon. Right now, my current rack is simply too small for my growing homelab and networking setup. Over the last few years, the UniFi ecosystem has grown a lot, and…
